Tisbury's Band On The Way To Stardom

About The Band

JimmyUnique was formed last summer, shortly after Sam Hughes returned to Tisbury.

He had been singing for over 20 years, and as a professional, living and singing abroad while performing virtually non-stop for six months at a time. Not only has he played with some of the South’s finest Rock Bands, he has had a long-running musical history with the Band’s current members, which made the creation of JimmyUnique a quick and painless task.

First to join was Oliver Turner on Drums.

Sam and Ollie had previously played together in another local rock band called The Big Easy.

Ollie is a natural and gifted player, devoting his life to his instrument, and he passes on his knowledge to others by teaching, full-time, many, many students, eager to learn the Drums from this maestro.

Next to join the fold was lead guitarist Justin Wakely.

Justin is a really accomplished guitarist, after learning his terrific skills from studying at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) in London.

Sam Hughes then asked Nick Stone to play bass and it was incredibly lucky to find such a high calibre player, especially since good Rock bass players are nearly impossible to find.

The icing on the cake, to finally bring JimmyUnique together, came in the form of rhythm and lead guitarist, James Turner, Ollie's Brother. He is a well-endowed, solid player with an inborn sense of rhythm and timing.

All members have been friends since childhood, having been born and bred in Tisbury.

From day one, JimmyUnique’s aim was to become the South’s best Rock Band.

In fact, with so much talent at their fingertips, coupled with their endless enthusiasm and optimism, and backed up with twice weekly rehearsals, they could actually become one of the best bands in the Country.

JimmyUnique’s strength is in the ability to transform songs which were not originally rock ones, into ones which are, by adding a clever JU twist. It is like a magic formula that enables them to successfully Beef –Up tracks from such diverse artists as Elton John and Abba. This is what makes The JimmyUnique Sound so unique.

The JU website www.jimmyunique.co.uk is currently under construction, so keep a look out on this blog to find out when it is completed: the site will show you the Band’s progress, its coming gigs and other interesting updates, as well as allow you to download new songs which are currently being recorded.

Why JimmyUnique?

It is a tribute to Jimmy Hughes (Sam’s Father), who although is no longer with us in person, is so in spirit, when Sam sings.

Latest Update from J - 26th October 2010

“At the moment we are concentrating on recording original songs written by Sam and myself. We have recorded one song recently

and have a few more to do! The biggest burden we have had is recording good sounding drums, but a couple of weeks ago we

managed to mic up Oli’s drum kit and were surprised with how good it sounded tone-wise. With the nature of recording drums

and the area we used(Great Western rehearsal area)we had to record the drums on their own with no guitars as they would bleed into the drum mic,s but Oli did a fantastic job of laying down the drums from start to finish; leaving other band mates the chance to record their own instrument parts later.

Sam has been ill recently, so this has prevented us from recording a few more tracks.”

Update from J
At the moment the band is busy recording a few tracks for Status Quo.
We sent them a one track demo a couple of weeks ago and were told they were impressed.
It was an original so they asked us for a sample of our cover tracks we do.
Hopefully we can support them on a few uk gigs here.
We are indeed playing Sunday Night at the South Western; going to be indoord gig this time, unlike our 1st gig there at the end of summer last year where we played in the car park.
Sounds likes a lot of people are coming, so hopefully plenty of pretty ladies will be about!
Always good to play at the western . . . Pat is too kind to us allowing us to rehearse there twice a week, making a lot of noise!
Hopefully she sells a lot of booze and has a good night!
I think the next week after that we are doing a private party a few miles away, and the blonde singer of Status Quo might be coming along to check us out if he’s in the Country.
Will check out that spin doctors track when I get a chance Ace, but between recording and rehearsals there has been little time for anything else.
Soon as the next two gigs are sorted we can fine tune sets.
Cheers
J
Will email you one of our recently recorded cover tracks when James masters it . . . not long.’
